How difficult is it to be a car harness tape?

If you want to be a qualified automobile harness tape, you need to pass a lot of tests.

There are many kinds of test standards. The GM standard is gmw16740. Some domestic automobile main engine manufacturers will refer to QC / T 29106 standard. In foreign countries, different brands of cars (such as Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota, etc.) will have their own standards.

This means that if tape manufacturers want to enter the supply chain of automobile OEMs, they need to conduct a full set of tests according to the standards of the automobile brand. These test items are cumbersome, lengthy and difficult.

How difficult is it to pass the gmw16740 standard?

Taking gmw16740 standard as an example, at the end of April this year, Yongguan PVC automobile harness tape (models 9521 and 9531) was sent to a third-party international professional, industrial inspection and testing institution to carry out the whole project test according to gmw16740 standard. The whole process took more than 6 months. See the following for specific test items.

Tensile strength and elongation, peeling force against steel plate, peeling force against back, sample bending after short-term aging, sample bending after long-term aging, sample bending after overload temperature aging, low-temperature bending test, bending test after moisture influence, wear resistance, noise test, dielectric strength, flame retardancy, fog performance, aldehyde and ketone emission, odor, tear ability Prohibited substances, etc.

In such a wide range of test items, several items are particularly difficult, namely, specimen bending after long-term aging and low-temperature bending test.

Sample bending after long-term aging: test tape 9521 was stored at 85 ℃ for 3000 hours (125 days), while test tape 9531 was stored at 100 ℃ for 3000 hours. After being taken out, the tested tape shall be free from any glue overflow, crack, edge warping and other failures, otherwise it shall be regarded as unqualified.

Low temperature bending test: the tested tape shall be placed in the environment of - 25 ℃ for 4 hours, and there shall be no glue overflow, crack, edge warping or other failure after removal, otherwise it will be regarded as unqualified.

Why are these two tests so difficult? Because PVC harness tape is difficult to meet the temperature resistance requirements of high temperature and low temperature at the same time. If the tape does not break at high temperature, it may break at - 25 ℃. On the contrary, it may be difficult to meet the requirements of high temperature resistance under the condition of no fracture at low temperature. It is very difficult to meet these two requirements at the same time and pass the 125 day test.

Therefore, each automobile harness tape has experienced the "test of thousands of difficulties and dangers" before it can enter your car. It can be used for identification, noise reduction, shock absorption, insulation and so on.
